Neil B. Garfinkel, Partner, Abrams Garfinkel Margolis Bergson, LLP (AGMB), will host the Real Estate Board of New York’s (REBNY): “How To Summer Series.” He will be joined by Eileen Kim, Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker, Douglas Elliman, to discuss the importance of “Agency,” which is the core concept upon which real estate brokers represent consumers.
With this in mind, Mr. Garfinkel and REBNY have produced an eleven-part video series on Agency Disclosure and Client Representation. Mr. Garfinkel, Broker Counsel to REBNY, and Ms. Kim walk the viewer through the nuts and bolts of agency disclosure by explaining how the buyer and seller should be represented, how to complete the Agency Disclosure Form (ADF) and how REBNY is a true “buyer representation environment.” Each video runs for three to four minutes.
The video series is a valuable resource for real estate brokers because consumers want to know how they are being represented in the transaction. In residential real estate transactions — whether it is rentals or sales — the real estate broker is required by New York State to fill out an ADF. The purpose of the ADF is to ensure that a real estate broker is accurately describing who they are representing in a transaction and the responsibilities that accompany the agency relationship. The ADF also works as a marketing tool for the broker, letting consumers know the broker displays the most ethical behavior in real estate transactions.
REBNY: How To Summer Series is an online video tutorial designed to promote the continuing education and professional development of real estate industry professionals. Each video in the series features a tip, useful experience, advice or data to help foster success in the real estate industry. REBNY members appear in these videos and provide helpful hints for both commercial and residential real estate professionals. In addition, each vignette engages viewers on topics they can explore in greater depth at the many seminars and courses offered by REBNY.
In addition to Mr. Garfinkel’s work with REBNY, his firm hosts REBNY’s Legal Line, a daily legal hotline provided exclusively for residential members of REBNY. He is certified by the New York State Department of State as an Instructor of Real Estate Classes. He concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, title, banking and lending law and is the Partner in charge of the firm’s Real Estate and Banking practices.
“Agency disclosure is the No. 1 issue for consumers because the consumer wants to know how their brokers are representing their interest during a real estate transaction,” Mr. Garfinkel said. “This video series provides a valuable resource for those in the real estate industry who wish to learn about agency disclosure.”
